EAST ALABAMA CHILDREN’S CHOIR and EAST ALABAMA YOUTH CHORALE
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
Thank you for your interest in East Alabama Children’s Choir and/or the East Alabama Youth Chorale.. We are committed to the belief that children and young people are infinitely capable of rising to the challenge of singing excellent music incredibly well when given structure and opportunity.
East Alabama Children’s Choir is for children in third through eighth grades. East Alabama Youth Chorale is for students in ninth grade through college. Our purpose is to help each choir member realize their potential as a musician while enjoying performing in a choir with like-minded students. We believe that this process develops character and responsibility in a supportive environment.
The commitment to the choir is for the full year. Please do not sign up for choir if you do not consider this important enough to be faithful in attendance. Choir members learn to rely on each other and we want this to be rewarding for each student.
Rehearsals are from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. on Monday afternoons at Providence Baptist Church; 2807 Lee Road 166 in the Beauregard Community of Opelika. We will begin rehearsals on Monday, August 12 for the 2019-2020 choir year! Our Parents’ Meeting will be on the same day at 4:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. We cannot wait to hear these choirs sing.
We have found that it is necessary to have an attendance policy. When a choir member misses rehearsal for the third time, we must re-evaluate whether this is important enough for the student to continue in the choir. Sickness cannot be helped and other issues will arise that must be dealt with on an individual basis; but as a whole, please commit to this time for your student. Transportation issues need to be worked out for the “long haul” so that the students can be at rehearsal each week. Everyone is expected to attend every performance. This is a commitment to the other choir members and not just to the directors.
Each member is expected to desire to do his/her best in rehearsal and performance. Therefore, a rehearsal CD will be provided to each family so that the choir member can rehearse at home each week. The amount of private rehearsal time will be less as the songs are memorized. All concerts are performed from memory.
Our primary method of communication is via e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail address, please arrange to check it through someone else’s computer and provide us with the address.
The financial commitment is $320 for the year, payable in two installments of $160.00 at the beginning of each Session: Session I begins in mid-August and goes through December- (the Fall Concert) and Session II begins in mid-January and goes through the Spring Concert which will be in May. Therefore, the payments are due in August and in January. Of course, you may pay the whole tuition at the beginning if you wish. There is a price break of 25% given for the second child in a family. We do not want the cost to prevent any child from participating in the choir. EACC will take care of notebook materials, music, tee shirt, theory workbook, and any performance fee as well as the instructional staff.
OUTFITS Parents take care of the more formal outfit and transportation to rehearsals. (Carpooling is always a possibility and can be worked out if needed.) The result we hope will be a development of music skills that the students can use the rest of their lives, confidence in themselves and some really great experiences and performances.
