Have you ever wondered how a person becomes a Christian? It is a question worth exploring, and the answer is life changing.

In the Bible, the writer of the book of Hebrews talks about faith in God being required to become a Christian. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6) So, one must believe that God is, and desire to have a relationship with Him. As a result of that desire, the Holy Spirit begins to draw a person toward God.

In the Gospel of John, Chapter 3, verse 16, we find these words: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” God loves you so much that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth to live among men. Jesus lived a sinless life, suffered the cruel death of the cross, was buried, and He rose from the dead the third day. He then ascended to Heaven to prepare a place for you in Heaven, where you can spend eternity with Him in the presence of our wonderful, loving God. Jesus did this for you that you might have a personal relationship with Him now in this life and in Heaven with Him after your body dies.

In this same chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus is talking to one of the religious leaders, and tells him he has to be “born again.” Jesus said we have to be born spiritually, much like we are born physically. When we are born again, a supernatural happening takes place: God breathes His Holy Spirit into us, and the Holy Spirit enters us. God is our Father, Jesus is our Savior, and the Holy Spirit is the one who lives in us. Just as there is a time and place where we are born physically, there is a time and place where we are born spiritually. While we may not remember the date and time, we should remember the circumstances and the experience.

In be book of Acts, the question was ask: “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” The answer was: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:30-31) If you are sincerely seeking a relationship with God, then simply:

  • Admit to God that you are a sinner in need of His forgiveness. The Bible tells us “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
  • Believe that Jesus died, was buried and rose again from the dead to pay the penalty for your sin. The Bible says “… if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)
  • Commit your life to Jesus by asking Him to be your Savior and Lord. “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.’” (Romans 10:13)

Remember, all you can do is offer yourself to God, and He will do the rest. Place your life in the hands of your Heavenly Father, and He will care for you the rest of your life, both now and eternally.
