The area of Worship Arts is under the coordination of Dr. Thomas R. Smith, Minister of Music and Ms. Pam Morris, Music Assistant. Worship Arts at Providence include Music, Drama, and Creative Movement. Please scroll down the page for more detailed information in these areas of service and ministry.

Music Division

Children’s Music (Preschool-Grade 6)

Director: Pam Morris, Anna Hovey & Kathi Pierce

Meets: Sunday, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Part of Sunday night’s PBC Kids, the Joyful Noise provides the opportunity for advanced music learning and music performance for children grades 1-6. This is accomplished through advanced music reading activities and the singing of appropriate songs with spiritual texts using the appropriate choral methods. The Joyful Noise Choir is a regular contributor to the music for worship. The group also joins the other children’s choirs at Christmas and for the Spring musical.

Student Choir (Grades 7 – College)

Director: Thomas R. Smith

Asst. Director: Adam Pierce

Meets: Sunday, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Part of Sunday night’s Youth Activities, the Student Choir provides the opportunity for advanced music learning and music performance for young people in grades 7-college. This is accomplished through the singing of appropriate sacred choral literature using the appropriate choral methods. The Student Choir is a regular contributor to the music for worship.  The group also participates in the Student Choir Kick-Off and has an annual summer tour. The Student Choir is also open to young people in the community who want this experience of music making and sharing with others.

Providence Singers (Adults including College Students)

Meets: Wednesday (first and third) 7:45-8:15 p.m.
The Providence Singers provides the opportunity for advanced music performance for adults including college students. This is accomplished through the singing of sacred choral literature for a smaller ensemble using the appropriate choral methods. The Providence Singers is a regular contributor to the music for worship. The group also joins the Church Choir on an annual tour. Most members of this ensemble are also members of the Church Choir.

Church Choir (Adults including College)

Asst. Director: Pam Morris

Meets: Wednesday, 6:45-7:45 p.m.
The Church Choir provides the opportunity for advanced music performance for adults including college students. This is accomplished through the singing of appropriate sacred choral literature using the appropriate choral methods. The Church Choir is a regular contributor to the music for worship. The group also joins the Providence Singers on an annual tour. The group also presents special programs at Christmas and Easter.

Golden Notes Choir (Senior Adults)

Director: Pam Morris

Meets: Wednesday, 5:00-5:45 p.m.
The Golden Notes Choir provides performance opportunities for senior adults. This is accomplished through the singing of appropriate sacred choral literature using the appropriate choral methods. The Golden Notes is a regular contributor to the music for worship. The group participates in the Senior Adult Day, the Senior Adult Music Festival, and other music events.

Providence Praise Team (Grades 7 – Adults)

Director: Jason Conner

Meets: Sunday, 3:00-4:00 pm
The Providence Praise Team leads worship for the Providence Youth KINECT on Wednesday evenings.

Providence Instrumental Ensemble (Students and Adults)

Meets: TBA as needed
The Providence Brass provides instrumental work for brass players. The group rehearses prior to designated performances either as playing for worship services or accompanying choral ensembles.

Creative Division

Drama Team (Grades 7 – Adult)

Director: Gayle Smith

Meets: TBA As Needed
The Drama Team is made up mostly of students 7th grade through college but does also involve adults as needed. The Drama Team contributes regularly to the worship experience through skits, song interpretation, monologues, plays, and providing the drama for musicals.

Creative Movement Team (Grades 7 – Adult)

Director: Anna Hovey

Meets: TBA As Needed
The Creative Movement Team provides an opportunity to use dance as a means of expression in worship for members grade 7 through adult. The group contributes regularly to the worship experience at Providence.
